Ireland pub quiz for travel agents

Demands on travel agents have never been higher than today: Before entering a travel agent´s customers usually inform themselves via the Internet. Thus they expect the person working there to be able to give them professional advice as well as insider knowledge about the country they are planning to visit.

Tourist boards and providers of tourist services are steadily extending their range of training programmes for travel agent employees. A considerable number of online courses have been pushing their way onto the market since the beginning of the new milllenium and have been competing to gain the attention and the goodwill of travel agents.

However, the time travel agents have for training alongside the job is limited. In addition, not every tourist board can afford its own extensive online course.

As the costs are often too high and as there is only a limited number of staff, it is simply not possible to update the courses and to offer an appropriate service to participants.

In January 2007 the Irish Tourist Board also had to decide what kind of course they could offer to travel agents in future.

Target group:

Travel agents/ the whole tourist industry

Task:

The task was to find an inexpensive and at the same time efficient alternative to extensive online courses. The aim was to transmit useful knowledge to travel agents, to present the products of service providers, to strengthen the bonds to the tourist board and, by doing all this, to promote the sales of trips to Ireland.

Solution:

A quiz has been created that transmits knowledge about Ireland in a playful and entertaining way: The cartoon-sheep ´Sean´ - already well-known from earlier courses - plays the quiz master - reminding us of ´Who wants to be a millionaire?´. Just like in the well-known TV show, Sean asks both simple and tricky questions about Ireland and the products of different partners (tour operators and airlines). The questions can easily be answered by visiting their websites. The participants take part in a contest, in which several trips to Ireland can be won. In the second round of the game (starting date: January 2008) Sean got support from his little family (his wife Heidi and their baby Eva-Aoife). They passionately follow the course of the quiz and react individually to correct and incorrect answers.
