Malta Tourist Authority Destinations Online game: Malta by bus All training programmes offered by tourist boards aim at gaining and keeping travel agents as true fans of their own countries as a holiday destination. The Malta online course is very popular and has been running since October 2003. For the Malta Tourism Authoriy, it has proved to be an excellent tool for binding travel agents. Regular updating of its contents, circular emails to the participants, winning games, accompanying media material and an extra seminar building up on the knowledge already acquired have helped make the Malta online course win a considerable number of true fans. Almost 5000 participants are enrolled at present, ouf of whom 1500 have already gained a certificate (February 2008). Even in its fifth year, the number of participants keeps growing. To make sure it continues this way the Malta Tourism Authority has to keep realising activities connected to the course. Target group: Long-term participants and new participants of the Malta online course. Task: The task was to find a new activity as part of the existing online course, which would not only incite new participants to get enrolled in the Malta online course but also evoke the interest of those travel agents who have been interested in Malta for a number of years and who already have an extensive basic knowledge of the country. Solution: The online game ´Malta by bus´ has been created. It invites the participant to playfully discover the two Maltese islands of Malta and Gozo by bus. Johnnie Valletti is the driver of this Maltese bus. Travel agents have come to know this popular mascot as their virtual teacher of the online course. During this game, the participants learn that almost all the sights and highlights to be found on the two islands can be reached quite comfortably by using public buses. (This knowledge can then again be passed on to their customers during a sales interview.) The game gives an overview over the main bus lines and the most important sights and often invites the participant to consult the Malta online course itself for necessary information. This is facilitated with the help of links leading directly to the information concerned, which helps save time. Results: Request access to "Results" |
